The living room, dining area, and kitchen create an open-concept space with room for everyone in the family. White walls create a bright and welcoming space, and the granite island provides more workspace.
The home was most recently renovated in 2012 with the addition of the primary bedroom that boasts a private bath and French doors that open up to let in fresh air and sunlight. Up a few more stairs is a lovely sitting area which the current owner uses as a craft and sewing room, including a side dressing room. This area then opens up to the older part of the house, with two bedrooms and the main bath.
This brick, 2-storey home celebrated its 101st birthday by adding Guelph’s first tiny house to their backyard!
The tiny house, with exterior built by The Cabin Office Company and interior finished by KPG Construction, is a 550 square foot spectacular space, brightly lit with south-west exposure and a sweeping 16-foot ceiling. It includes a 3-piece bath, a vintage clawfoot tub, and is furnished with a mix of repurposed items and local finds. The tiny house was lovingly designed with the community in mind and will act as a creative space, short term rental and primary workspace for Jessica. Flagstone from the community creates a safe walkway for guests, and is an example of Colin and Jessica’s love of repurposing materials.
When asked what they cherish most about their home, Jessica was quick to say the front porch swing. In the summer months, they sit on the swing as a family and simply enjoy their neighbourhood. They have created meaningful relationships within their community in the short 2 years they have lived there.
One of Jessica’s favourite Christmas traditions is making coffee cake for Christmas morning with her grandmother and mom and the tradition has been carried on with her daughter. Jessica’s favourite holiday song is “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.”
Jessica and Colin wanted to be part of the Christmas Joy Home Tour to share their newly completed backyard tiny home. The project became a source of hope and joy during a hard year. Jessica’s favourite season is Christmas and she is looking forward to seeing the work of the designers in her space.
