Our Programs

As the JOY Home Tour continues to grow so do the programs we organize through HOPE (Helping Overcome Poverty Everywhere) House to impact our community. Some of our projects include:

The Food Market – Our innovative approach with a choice-based, points system with food provision has exploded with growth since HOPE House opened its doors in September of 2012. We provide food assistance with non-perishable food items as well as providing a separate points system for hygiene and cleaning products as well as baby items for young families.

Edu-Kitchen – Our edu-kitchen provides cooking and nutritional skills building opportunities for our clients with our recipe-of-the-month program. Families can come and learn to cook the featured recipe and then have a nutritious meal to take home and feed their family with.

HOPE Stylin' – We provide hair care services in our newly opened hair salon as well as having gently used clothing available for men, women and children.

The Running and Reading Club – Which falls under the umbrella of, Start 2 Finish, works in high needs elementary schools to help children from low income or under-resourced families. This integrated program based on literacy, character development and physical activity provides children with the opportunity to dream and to set and achieve goals. Kids should believe there is nothing they cannot accomplish. In 2012 we supported the program at Willow Road School. Over 50 kids participated in the program and worked towards the end of year 5km race.

The Back-to-School Backpack Program – HOPE House partnering with the Neighbourhood Coalition and the Salvation Army provides backpacks and necessary supplies required by children when they begin a new school year. In 2012, we organized and distributed hundreds of backpacks to children throughout the city. We believe that each child should be prepared to begin the school year with the necessary tools that will give them confidence that they have what it takes to succeed.

The Christmas Hamper Bureau – Is made up of many local agencies, neighbourhood groups and churches in Guelph who work together to provide a Christmas hamper to families who would otherwise not have a Christmas. The hamper includes a turkey dinner with all of the trimmings, groceries for their family and gifts for the children. In 2012, HOPE House provided over 300 Christmas hampers to those in need in our community.
